Bot River Hitlist: wines not to miss – especially on a Spring Weekend

SO PERHAPS you are going to be in Bot River in the Walker Bay district of the Cape South Coast for the Spring Weekend. Or maybe you’re just contemplating this area of South Africa’s winelands as they put out an extra welcome mat, step up the charm and make a bit more noise at this time of year. What to aim for?

Well, the Classified beauties include the following – any year should reward, such is their good track record:

Beaumont Hope Marguerite (Chenin)
Gabriëlkloof Magdalenda (White Blend)
Gabriëlkloof The Blend (Red)
Luddite Shiraz
Wildekrans Barrel Select Reserve (Range)

Also particularly highly rated of late are the following vintages, if you can still find them:

Barton Blanc 2015 (White Blend)
Beaumont Vitruvia 2015 (White Blend)
Benguela Cove Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2015, 2016
Saboteur 2015 (Red Blend from Luddite)

And some pointers around lunchtime in Bot River? The tables at Wildekrans and Gabrielskloof should do the trick…
