Way under R100 pb and recommended by SA wine connoisseurs

FOR ALL of the South African wines at under R100 a bottle that have received good reviews during the past year, see here. Two of the most recent finds well worth considering come from the Griers of Villiera in the Koelenhof area of Stellenbosch: two blends, a red and a white, each selling for R55 at the cellar door – only R50.40 if you buy a case or more and join their wine club (no strings attached).

Villiera Down to Earth Touriga Naçional Shiraz 2016
Considered ‘excellent’ (90/100) in Winemag’s 2018 ‘Signature Red Blend Report‘ published in July – this after the 2015 vintage achieved a double gold medal at the Michelangelo Awards in 2017.
70% Touriga, 30% Shiraz. Can be enjoyed young; will keep for up to 8 years.
Producer’s Description: “An explosion of spice and dark red berry flavours, with the tannin caressing the palate.”

Villiera Jasmine 2018
An off-dry, aromatic blend of Moscato, Riesling and Gewürztraminer Listed in the 2018 Sommeliers Selection – repeating the achievement of the 2017 vintage in the Somms 2017 Winelist.
The name ‘Jasmine’ was chosen to convey to the consumer a hint of what to expect. Villiera’s description: “A floral, slightly spicy white wine which is fresh, light and slightly sweet.”
