The Single Tree Chardonnay given its due at Drinks Business Masters
THE BRITISH Masters of Wine on the tasting panels of leading UK trade publication The Drinks Business included a number of South African wines among the laureates applauded in the 2015/16 Global Chardonnay Masters, Global Sauvignon Blanc Masters and Global Cabernet Sauvignon Masters competition results announced recently. Chief among them was the 2014 vintage of The Single Tree Chardonnay from Uva Mira Mountain Vineyards high up in the Helderberg, Stellenbosch, singled out for one of the Master awards presented for wines scored more than 95/100. Special occasion stuff at R450 a bottle ex-cellar.
The Uva Mira champ is a single-vineyard wine named after a single tree in the centre of the Chardonnay block – more than 600m above sea level, with views of False Bay, Stellenbosch and Table Mountain in the distance. Among the Top 10 in the SA Wine Classification. Top Wine SA Hall of Fame.
