Fairview, Rustenberg and Saronsberg dominate at Shiraz Challenge

THE CEDERBERG Private Cellar, KWV and Fairview of Paarl, Eagles’ Nest of Constantia and Saronsberg of Tulbagh have the best track records at the Shiraz SA Challenge since its inception in 2013. At the 2017 edition, all triumphed once again, with Rustenberg of Stellenbosch also sharing the limelight as one of three cellars to earn a couple of trophies on the day.

Moreover, Rustenberg, Cederberg, Eagles’ Nest and Saronsberg are all among the Top 10 in the 2017 SA Shiraz Classification. Talk about a solid set of results! And it’s remarkable that top SA Shiraz continues to come from various regions and districts – also including Durbanville (D’Aria), Elim (Strandveld) and Bot River (Wildekrans).

There were 220 entries in the competition. On the jury: Cape Wine Master Andy Roediger (chair), international judge Claus Fischer (Germany), Master of Wine Cathy van Zyl, cellarmasters Charles Hopkins (De Grendel) and Edmund Terblanche (La Motte), Taj Hotel sommelier Pearl Oliver and wine writer/editor Samarie Smit (Die Burger).
