Diemersdal and Steenberg lead SA charge at Mondial du Sauvignon

AT THE 2017 edition of Concours Mondial du Sauvignon in Bordeaux, France, 861 wines from 22 countries were scored by 65 judges from 17 countries over two days, with trophies awarded for eight wines and medals for 242 – 87 gold and 155 silver. Two of South Africa’s 45 Sauvignon Blanc entries – one from Diemersdal and another from Steenberg – won gold, with silver going to eight cellars in various parts of the Cape. The trophies were won by producers in France (three), New Zealand, Austria, Spain and Italy. Full results here.

Diemersdal’s achievement with the 2016 vintage of MM Louw – one of half a dozen expressions of Sauvignon Blanc bottled on Thys Louw’s spread in the northern reaches of Durbanville – follows those of the 2015 that included a 5 Star rating in Platter’s guide. Clearly one of the Top 10 track records in this class over the past 10 years.
