Capensis considered among world’s best at Chardonnay Masters 2016

Gold medal for the 2013 vintage
Master award for the 2014

NOW THAT’S what we’re talking about! THAT’S how to show it’s worth the asking price!! Winning one of only six Master awards (scored over 95/100) presented after the British Drinks Business magazine’s 2016 Global Chardonnay Masters competition involving some 200 entries from around the world, the 2014 vintage of Capensis also scored highly in the local Winemag.co.za Chardonnay report earlier in the year. Moreover, Capensis 2013 was awarded gold in the UK taste-off, where the judges are mostly Masters of Wine or Master Sommeliers. An impressive performance from this South African wine that goes for $80 (R1150) a bottle!

Capensis is a joint venture spanning two continents and several regions of the Cape. The team is headed by proprietors Barbara Jackson of Jackson Family Wines in California USA and Antony Beck of Graham Beck Wines in Robertson SA as well as Angela Estate in the US state of Oregon, with Graham Weerts the winemaker and Rosa Kruger managing the vineyards. The grapes come from Stellenbosch, Robertson and the Overberg – we aren’t told which cellar the winemaking is completed at, although you kinda suspect it has to be Beck’s winery in Robertson. And pretty classy label too – artfully combining images of a Springbok, Marula tree, King Protea and Zulu shield.
