Winemag Cab tasting an exciting prospect for JHB & CTN wine lovers – despite absentees

winemag bottle sticker 90 points - pngYOU MIGHT well wonder why Rustenberg Peter Barlow was excluded from the line-up for Winemag.co.za’s 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon report, i.e. given the wine’s great track record over the past 10 years, given that it was scored 5 Stars in the 2014 edition of the report and then chosen as the international judges’ overall favourite at this year’s Trophy Wine Show. You might also wonder why Vergelegen V is not included in the line-up for the online publication’s Cabernet Sauvignon public tasting scheduled to take place at Radisson Blu’s Gautrain Hotel in Sandton Johannesburg on 10 June and Waterfront Hotel in Cape Town on 17 June – scored 91 out of 100, it’s the only wine rated 90-plus in the report that is not among the beauties to be served at the public tasting.

The experience to be led by Winemag.co.za’s Christian Eedes together with Waterford’s Kevin Arnold as well as (at the Joburg venue) Nederburg’s Samuel Viljoen and (at the CTN venue) Christo le Riche should be a treat. With seating limited to 100 people, the wines to be showcased are as follows – listed according to their score in Eedes’ Cabernet Sauvignon Report:

Waterford 2012 – 93 points
Le Riche 2012 – 92 points
De Trafford 2012 – 91 points
Graham Beck The Coffeestone 2013 – 91 points
Laibach The Widow’s Block 2012 – 91 points
Nederburg II Centuries 2010 – 91 points
Oldenburg 2012 – 91 points
Rust en Vrede Single Vineyard – 91 points
La Bri Limited Release 2012 – 90 points
Spier Woolworths Reserve 2012 – 90 points
Stark-Condé 2012 – 90 points
Warwick Blue Lady 2012 – 90 points
