Charcuterie, cheese, good bread and more at the Jordan Bakery – casual alternative to classy restaurant next door

THE BAKERY at Jordan affords visitors to the estate in Stellenbosch Kloof an opportunity to wine and snack on a deck under the trees just below and to the side of the highly rated Jordan Restaurant… Upstairs is one of the Top 10 kitchens in the country where patrons indulge in fine dining and pay the price that comes with being served by leading chef George Jardin and his team – you generally have to book a table well in advance. Downstairs there are also tables indoors but it’s a much more casual lunch venue where they don’t take reservations and where there’s still a touch of class that goes with a very short, basic menu compared with what’s offered at the high tables.

At the Bakery you could share a board of cheese and/or charcuterie with bread, some preserves and spreads or a salad. What was lacking initially and which the management was putting right were options for the hungry, a fish and a hearty meat dish, say, still priced at a level representing good value at one of the top wine farms in South Africa. With a winelist featuring plenty by the carafe or bottle plus a welcoming ambience and friendly waitrons, the venue is sure to see Jordan climb the rankings as regards SA wine route hotspots (where they also serve breakfast).
